Javvarisi Carrot Payasam | Sago-Carrot Pudding | Quick Indian Sweets

Pinterest Hidden Image

Carrot Sago Kheer or Javvarisi Carrot Pasayam is a quick deiicious kheer or pudding that  can be put together for festivals or celebrations.

For years, Sago / Sabudana was much disliked by me as much as the rest of the family. Like the sabbakki payasa or kichdi, it was rarely made, although I personally favoured a sabbakki upma (sago upma – Karnataka style) that my mom’s bestie used to make when we visited her ocassionally.

Sago / Sabudana / Javvarisi and Indian fasting rituals

Sabudana is preferred for fasting days amongst Indians when the carbs in the non-grain dish keeps the devotees satiated as they fast the entire day. Sabudana is usually used to make Sabudana TIkki, Sabudana Khichdi, Kheer or even Sabudana Dosa etc.

For now, this Javvarisi – Carrot Payasam won the hearts of the family, was simple enough to make, and satisfies those crazy after-meal sugar cravings (for the midnight cravings, there’s always dark chocolate :D) or even as offering / Naivedyam on a festival / occasion. I also made it with very little ghee so that way weight watchers can also indulge in a bit. If you have a mild sweet tooth like us, you might also enjoy this Instant Pot Semiya Payasam (Vermicelli Kheer)

End of the day ,my not-loving-sago family ended up enjoying a mildly sweet dessert. And I did a happy dance for one more dessert added to the festival menu 🙂
