While shortlisting for alphabet B, it was to be between Bread Bhel (which am yet to blog – just can’t believe that, and a take on the famous Bhel Puri !! ) and today’s dish – Badam Makha – a delicious street food from Kolkata. Kolkata has its own list of street foods from various kinds of Bori(which is akin to pakoras), luchis, the ubiquitous puchka, Jhal muri, Channa Zor Garam and with the Tibetan , Bangladeshi influence , lots of indo-Chinese recipes as well.
Badam in Hindi is almond. But here it’s something else .

Prep time – 10 Mins, zero Cook ; serves – 2
Badam Makha – street food form Kolkata
Vegan, gluten free.
Roasted peanuts (unsalted) – 1/2 cup (Badam here refers to peanuts)
Mustard oil – 2 tbsp (don’t miss this !)
Chopped onions -1/4 cup
Deseeded n diced tomatoes + cucumbers – 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Black pepper powder , Chaat masala, Red chilli powder, black salt – all to taste
Green chilli – 1/2 tsp (optional)
Chopped coriander + lemon juice – for garnish .
In a bowl, mix the oil, spices well with a fork / whisk and keep aside. To this, add the onions cucumbers and tomatoes.
Add to this the roasted peanuts. Give it a vigorous mix and add coriander, lemon juice and green chilli if using.
Serve immediately with a cup of tea or munch them alongside reading your favourite novel or while watching ur favourite movie .
Totally guilt free, yet filling !
